Palantir, Microsoft, and Azure OpenAI: What the Partnership Means for AI Privacy

Updated October 14, 2026: The publicly documented partnership is between Palantir and Microsoft. It brings Azure OpenAI models to government cloud environments. That announcement does not establish that consumer ChatGPT conversations are being shared with Palantir.

What the announcement says

Palantir and Microsoft announced an integration in August 2024 for government and national-security customers. It combines Palantir’s software with Azure OpenAI services in Microsoft’s government and classified cloud environments. Read the original partnership announcement.

What it does not prove

A government-cloud deployment is different from the consumer ChatGPT service. The partnership announcement is not evidence that an ordinary ChatGPT user’s prompts are being copied into Palantir databases. Decisions about your data should be based on the terms and controls of the specific service you use.

Questions to ask before using cloud AI

Where are my prompts and files processed?
What are the retention and access policies for this product?
Can I disable model training, and does my plan already exclude it?
Do my work requirements allow remote processing?

OpenAI says business data is excluded from model training by default. Consumer users have data controls, including an option to turn off model improvement and Temporary Chat.
